Alterations to an existing house

In the village of Borger, Drenthe, the residence of the Lohof family has been refurbished. The entire residential programme has been repositioned and optimised within the original volume. The living room has been moved to a new extension adjoining the garden, offering an unimpeded view of the ‘farmlands’.

The new additions comprise two timber roof trusses positioned away from the existing and the new end walls. This makes it possible on the one hand to express the transition between the existing and the new volume by means of a ‘skylight’, and on the other to position the windows on the corners of the new extension.

The overall shape, materialisation and colours of the new extension ensure that it blends naturally into the existing qualities of the rural setting.
