Opening Zonnehof Schools

Today, the official opening of the Zonnehof Schools in Duivendrecht will be celebrated. In February, the new building for the two primary schools, designed by JSA in cooperation with Theo Kupers Architect, was delivered. In the beginning of March, the schools were put into service.

The schools are housed in one combined building, but without losing their own identity. This is visible in the exterior, as well as in the interior. The public elementary school De Grote Beer is organised into a number of educational clusters around separate learning plazas, while the A. Bekemaschool has compact classrooms or ‘base camps’ around large central learning plazas. Both interiors have their own color palette.

De building is situated in a spacious green area. Existing trees on the playground are preserved. The domains of the two schools open out onto the adjacent natural playground.
