Buildings 1+2 WDE finished
For the Westerdok Island in Amsterdam JSA has made the design for four of the fourteen building units, that form part of the central block; buildings 1, 2, 9 and 10. The other buildings in the central block are designed by Art Zaaijer, John Bosch and MVRDV. The urban plan of this block - by CH & Partners - can be seen as a closed building block with a large central space - the Cour. The buildings vary in height between 3 and 11 storeys and have an underground parking garage extending under the whole area.

After delivering buildings 9 and 10 in august 2008, now the buildings 1 and 2 are completed. Building 1 exists of 28 social housing rental apartments. This building has a gallery with a special facade of perforated brickwork.
Building 2 contains 69 apartments. Most of the apartments are not only orientated to the river ‘IJ’: they also have a private balcony or loggia on the Cour.
The 1.500 square meter commercial space - on the ground floor and first floor of the building - is going to accommodate the river-police for the coming years. Ultimately they will move to Wester-IJdock, which is going to be built across the street, on a new peninsula in ‘het IJ’.
